Pacesetter Basketball will be offering a two-class post season playoff system for all boys' and girls' basketball teams in grades 4-9 in North Dakota and South Dakota as part of a 5-state system, sponsored by the Minnesota Lynx and Minnesota Timberwolves, with the championships played at the Target Center in Minneapolis.Both Class A and Class B playoffs will be provided in both states. Schools with a high school enrollment in grades 9-12 of 325 or over will be classified as Class A schools. Schools with a high school enrollment in grades 9-12 fewer than 325 students will be classified as Class B schools.The champions of the Class A playoffs in each state will be offered a direct bid to the Great Five-State Championships at the Target Center in Minneapolis. The top two teams in Class B from ND and SD will play off in a "border battle" for a bid to play in the "Great State" tournament. All South Dakota teams can register for the State Championships. All players on a team must either be enrolled in the same school system or live or attend school in the same city, the same school district or the same tribal community. CLASS A GUIDELINES: Smaller schools may combine to form one team if the combined enrollment of their high schools for grades 9-12 is 400 or fewer. Schools that combine should be from neighboring schools. CLASS B GUIDELINES: Two smaller schools may combine to form one team if the combined enrollment of their high schools for grades 9-12 is 325 or fewer. Schools that combine should be from neighboring schools. Teams with school enrollment over 325 may not register for the B tournament.The South Dakota Class A champion and the North Dakota/South Dakota Class B champion will both be invited to play in the 8-team Pacesetter Great Five-State Championship at the Target Center in Minneapolis against teams from Minnesota, Iowa, North Dakota and Wisconsin. Over 1,000 teams will be participating from the five states. Pacesetter is a strong advocate for supporting “Hometown Teams” by providing instructional camps, tournaments and newsmagazines supporting high school basketball. In 39 years, Pacesetter has provided over 2,000 camps and 2,000 tournaments and published over 200 newsmagazines. The SD Class A Champion and the Class B over-all champion from the "Border Battle" tournament advance to the Target Center in Minneapolis, MN where they play in the Great Five-State Championships against the top teams from Minnesota, Iowa, North Dakota and Wisconsin in Summer of 2019.
All post-season tournaments are listed below with basic information. Further information, guidelines, etc. for each tournament will be provided in the invitation packets and posted later on this website after all state qualifying has been completed.
